1689 Confession Study
The Second London Baptist Confession of 1689 is our church’s confessional standard — a faithful summary of what we are persuaded Scripture teaches. Confessions are not new revelation; they are old theology, carefully expressed. To know the 1689 well is to have most of the Christian faith laid out, chapter by chapter, in clear public words.
The Doctrine for Living study at Pray’s Mill walks slowly through the 1689 Confession, one chapter at a time, in the context of the local church. We read the chapter. We compare it to Scripture. We discuss what it means and what difference it makes. The aim is not academic; it is doxological. Confessional theology is meant to be sung as much as it is meant to be argued.
How It Works
Read along, listen along.
If you would like to read the confession alongside the recordings of this study, you can find the full text of the 1689 at the1689confession.com or in print form (often available in the foyer or in Hall’s Living Library).
To get the most out of the study, we recommend three steps. First, read the chapter of the confession before listening. Second, look up every proof text the confession cites — this is where the doctrine is actually grounded. Third, listen to the discussion and let it sharpen your own reading.
