Of Baptism and the Lord's Supper

Chapter 28 introduces the two ordinances which Christ instituted to be observed by his church to the end of the world: baptism and the Lord’s Supper. The Reformed Baptist tradition uses the word ordinance rather than sacrament — emphasizing that these are commands of Christ to be obeyed, not magical conduits of grace.

These ordinances are to be observed by those only who are qualified and called thereunto according to the commission of Christ. They are signs and seals of God’s grace — the gospel preached without words.
